Founded in 1948 by Elmina Fortin and Stanislas Labbé, Laiterie Charlevoix is still owned today by the Labbé family. Stanislas and Elmina's great grandchildren are the fourth generation to work in the business. Originally dedicated to the dairy product trade in Charlevoix and on the North Shore, the company has adapted over the years to turn to the production of fine cheeses and cheddar. Laiterie Charlevoix products are distributed across Canada.
Today, the company has taken a major environmental turn by converting its whey into energy. She chose to establish partnerships with young agricultural producers in order to save dairy farms in Charlevoix.
She is also involved in the Canadian cow rescue project by helping three agricultural producers and financially supporting "The Association for the development of Canadian cattle in Charlevoix".
Finally it is more than a cheese dairy that we find on the site. It is an Economuseum, a rest area, a museum, an interpretation center and a store where regional products are on display.
