The Honourable Steven Guilbeault was first elected as Member of Parliament for Laurier-Sainte-Marie in 2019. He previously served as Minister of Canadian Heritage.

Minister Guilbeault is a leading figure in the fight against the climate crisis, and has been leading this fight for years from Laurier-Sainte-Marie.

His commitment to the environment began at the age of five, when he climbed a tree to protect it from real estate developers who were preparing to bulldoze the woodland behind his home in La Tuque. Twenty-five years later, he climbed the CN Tower in Toronto to get Canada to ratify the Kyoto Protocol.

In 1993, Minister Guilbeault co-founded Équiterre, Quebec's largest environmental organization, and served as its Senior Director from 2008 to 2018. He also worked as a director and campaigner at Greenpeace. For over ten years, he held the position of strategic advisor at Cycle Capital Management, a Canadian fund dedicated to the development of clean technologies. Minister Guilbeault has also worked for Deloitte & Touche and Copticom, a consulting firm specializing in green and social economy and transportation issues.

From protester to strategic advisor to dozens of governments and companies in Canada and abroad, Minister Guilbeault is a pragmatist who seeks to make things happen by building bridges and forging links. A true sports and cycling enthusiast, he has mainly cycled twelve months a year for the past 30 years.

Minister Guilbeault is father of four and stepfather of two.
